A Modern Retro Console that plays NES, SNES, Genesis and GBA Cartridges.
EL MONTE, CA (MARCH 2013) – Hyperkin will be unveiling their new console, the RetroN 4, at this year’s Midwest Gaming Classic at the Sheraton Milwaukee Brookfield Hotel in Brookfield, Wisconsin, on Saturday, March 23, 2013 at 11:00 AM CST. The RetroN 4 plays NES, SNES, Genesis and GBA cartridges all in one convenient console.
The RetroN 4 will have four cartridge slots as well as two controller ports for each system, allowing for users to use their original controllers. What will differentiate the Retron 4 from other iterations of retro consoles currently in the market are several key additions that add a modern twist. The RetroN 4 will have an HDMI output, which will allow for users to play their games on high-definition televisions. When users boot up the machine, they will find the “Perdana” digital user interface which opens a wide variety of modern gaming features such as selecting systems, button reassignment and other features that will be named at the Midwest Gaming Classic. The console will also allow users to play both NTSC and PAL cartridges and will incorporate Bluetooth technology, with a completely new, redesigned wireless Bluetooth controller.
“We have had great success with the SupaBoy and RetroN 3, and we wanted to create an entirely new console that has the modern amenities that will allow users to utilize current technology,” stated Steven Mar, Hyperkin’s Executive Director. “As this is an ambitious project for Hyperkin, our goal for this system is to combine modern gaming convenience to not only cater to the retro gaming community, but to also introduce a new generation of gamers to the classic games that have shaped the present gaming landscape.”
RetroN 4 Points of Interest:
· 2 Original Controller Ports for Each Platform (6 Total)
· Wireless Bluetooth Controller
· 4 Cartridge Ports for NES, SNES, Genesis and GBA cartridges
· HDMI Output with Digital Signal Conversion
· “Perdana” Digital User Interface
· PAL and NTSC compatible
More details of the RetroN 4 will be announced during Hyperkin’s presentation at the Midwest Gaming Classic.

Gosh, this is great. It would be perfect if it played Japanese NES carts!

…or N64 games.
Anyway, I wonder if it will be fully compatible with certain games. You know, like Megaman X3 on the SNES orDragon Warrior for the NES.

Malus_X, our goal is for 100% Compatibility.

My question is, will the HDMI say for a 1080 tv stretch it and make the games look all pixelated?
It plays GameBoy Advance Games but will it also play Original GameBoy, GameBoy DX and GameBoy Color games?
What about games that were previously unplayable such as CastleVania 3: Dracula’s Curse for the NES? Or Super Mario RPG: Legend of the 7 Stars for the SNES?

We will disclose all information at the Midwest Gaming Classic on March 23. That being said, the HDMI will allow for up conversion, and our goal is to have 100% compatibility with all games.

Or you can just download an Emulator..? Heck, there’s a few websites where you can play the games on your browser without having to download anything.

So why would we need HDMI for retro games? Wouldn’t the game just be stretched where there made in 4:3 ratio instead of 16:9? Everything else sounds awesome though.

Tim…HDMI is so that people will be able to play their games on HDTVs, and that the RetroN 4 will do up conversion. We will reveal more information on the RetroN 4 after MGC.

I love my Retron 3. I have all the original consoles, but it is so much easier to just use the R3. I think the big draw is still being able to use the original controllers.
What I want to know is, will the R4 play the games the R3 would not? Super Mario RPG? Castlevania 3? Will I be able to use the Super Scope which will not work on my R3 but does on my SNES?
I am excited for the HDMI.
I wonder how much it will cost

Shawn…we reveal further details after our presentation at MGC…that being said, our goal is for 100% compatibility.

the idea of playing GBA games on a TV is amazing. it’d be even better, though, if you could do multiplayer with them.

Thank you for the suggestion…we will look into that possibility.

Cant wait but I wasn’t a major gba fan but same for any game boy really but I’m sure it has to do with its non back lit screen so on the big tv it should be good like the accessory for GC- saying that though I hope it still has old hook ups for sd tvs as well, still one improvement at a time I suppose.
Hyperkin Media says:
Mar 15, 2013
Tj…it will still have hookups for SDTVs…

The only question is, will the sound issues on the NES and Genesis be fixed?

More than likely, yes…

Will this be sold in the UK with the appropriate power adaptor? I always wanted to get a RetroN3 but didn’t really want to mess around with stepdown convertors or third party ac adaptors
Also will it support the use of Everdrive carts across SNES, NES and Mega Drive?

Jamie…We will reveal full details and specs of the RetroN 4 after our presentation at the Midwest Gaming Classic, and detail compatibility as well.

I’m really excited for this thing, but if your headquarters are in CA, kinda by my house, why are you revealing it in Wisconsin?
Tom says:
Mar 18, 2013
Because that is were the Midwest Gaming Classic is. And there isn’t any other medium or large gaming shows around this time of the year anywhere else.
Hyperkin Media says:
Mar 19, 2013
We are revealing it in Wisconsin because it is one of the largest Retro Gaming Shows in the US. We have strong ties with people in the Retro Gaming Community, and as they have supported us through the years, we also want to support them as well. Although we are in the business of making products, we want to become a permanent fixture in the gaming community, and feel that it is important for us to have a presence, and just not be a faceless entity.
Tom says:

Two questions.
1 – Will the GBA port also play GB and GBC
2 – Since this system is run via a built-in operating system I am assuming it will allow you to save games? Please say yes.
3. (sorry i know i said 2) Will this system be availalbe immediately after the Midwest Gaming Classic?

Hello Tom…We will reveal all information to the RetroN 4 at the Midwest Gaming Classic this Saturday…afterwards, we will post up all the information on our blog, our Facebook Page, as well as on Twitter…and the system will not immediately be available after MGC, as we are still in development, it is merely an announcement.

Congrats on the unveiling of Retron5! Looks amazing everything seems awesome as the upscaling in hd = cheaper upscaler device like the xrgb which is great.
One question though when do you believe it will be released before june or late june and really for around $100 sounds too good to be true
?
Finally one suggestion I know its already crammed with stuff but a sd card slot or just rom compatibility would be epic for homebrew and games people cant afford/ even find let alone buy thanks you. ( It has a usb port so use that for roms
or not… just a suggestion!
