After much hype and anticipation here at the Hyperkin office, we finally got our hands on a working Game Genie: Save Editor for the PS3. We took this piece of save-hacking software for a spin and we got to breeze through several games with massive amounts of power. Boy, did it ever get easier to finish games in record time.
The first two games we got to try out with the Save Editor were Final Fantasy XIII-2 and Uncharted 3. Getting started was easy enough: first we had to play out the games a little bit until we arrived at an appropriate save point. Once we had the save file, we just plugged the Game Genie USB drive into the PS3, find the save files in the XMB and copied them over. The Game Genie program on the PC immediately detected the copied save files on the USB drive and displayed a list of available cheats. All we had to do was click the cheats we wanted, let the program write them, then overwrite the save file on our PS3 with the powered-up save file. Game on.
Final Fantasy XIII-2’s max Gil (money) and max Crystarium (experience) cheats made it possible to have every role maxed out to level 99 before we even fought the first boss. We could go nuts with whatever we wanted to buy at Chocolina’s Shop without a care in the world (though we made the mistake of buying 99 of everything we could see until we found out that there was an item limit—we had to go about selling back those items to make space in our bag).
Being so powered-up, beating the game took little thought other than just mashing the appropriate attack buttons and occasionally changing paradigms just to switch things up. We were able to bypass any difficult grinding and beat bosses without breaking a sweat. For the gamers amongst us who have difficulty keeping up with all the entries in the Final Fantasy series, beating the game on speed-through definitely allowed us to enjoy exploring the world and watching the cut scenes at a more convenient pace.
Speaking of cut scenes, you’d think that Uncharted 3 would be a game that didn’t really need cheats—for those of us who beat the game on Very Easy at least. We decided to take the challenge and try for Difficult right off the bat. However, we would not be without our weapons as we were able to max out all our guns to have 999 ammo. Imagine having a RPG that could launch 999 missiles. Those wimpy sniper guys didn’t stand a chance, no matter how far away they were. Maximum grenades were great too, being able to run around and toss grenades like piñata candy (let it rain explosions!) A few of us had already played Uncharted 3 on our personal consoles, but with the unlock all levels cheat, we were able to skip past a lot of the parts to get straight to fun locations with lots of shooting and epic cut scenes.
Those were just two games we started out playing with the Game Genie: Save Editor for PS3 and we can’t wait to try out more. The database is growing everyday with new cheats for new games and by the time you guys can get your hands on one, there’ll be a boatload of cheats for you to go nuts on. Happy gaming with all the power in your hands!

Does the PS3 Game Genie require an Internet connection the PC? I saw Xploder, and it’s also supposed to be able to resign saves to different profiles, but it requires an Internet connection to even work. I want to buy Game Genie, but only if I don’t have to be online all the time to do this.
Is it possible to use the PS3 Game Genie completely and totally offline?

Yes…you will need an Internet connection in order to have the Game Genie: Save Editor for the PS3 to work…

Ah, crap, that’s what I thought.
Is it because the program needs to connect to your servers to resign saves?

You need an Internet connection, because the program will link up with our servers, at which point the cheat code will be downloaded from our servers and patched on to your individual save. A backup of your original save will be made as well.

Okay, interesting. I love this kind of thing, by the way.
One last question – What if I don’t want any cheat codes at all? What if I ONLY want to use the Game Genie to resign saves to different profiles? Would I still need the Internet?
Thanks for all your help and answers, by the way. I appreciate it greatly.

Question, on the Final Fantasy XIII-2 part. Will this allow you to add whatever monsters you want to your party? I bought the DLC for the game and would like to start over with all those available from the start. No max stats or anything.

it is a good system but why have you guys only made it to work with the US and Canada regions ?
Hyperkin Media says:

Because our company is based in the US (California, to be specific), we wanted to cater to the US and Canada first. We are exploring the possibility of having it available in other regions, and when we have a definitive announcement to make, we will let everyone know.
