There have been numerous questions that a lot have you been asking regarding the Game Genie: Save Editor for PS3, and we would like to take the time out to address the most frequently asked questions that you all have had about the Game Genie: Save Editor for PS3.
Q. Where can I get it?
A. You can purchase the Game Genie: Save Editor for PS3 on the Game Genie website, Amazon and your local retailers.
Q. Will I need to have an Internet connection on my PC for the Game Genie: Save Editor for PS3 to work?
A. Yes. You will need to have an Internet connection on your PC; after you select the cheat(s) you want to activate, the program will download the code and patch it onto your save file.
Q. What games does the Game Genie have codes for?
A. You can go to the Game Genie website (http://thegamegenie.com/ps3/) to see the current list of games available that have codes. This list will be updated as we add more games onto this list.
Q. Will the Game Genie work for non US games?
A. Not at the moment. The Game Genie: Save Editor for PS3 was designed for use on US and Canada, and the current code list we have is strictly for US PS3 games (Region 1). However, most PS3 games do not have the region lock, where people in other countries are able to play US PS3 games, so if you have Save Data from a US PS3 game, you will be able to use the Game Genie.
Q. How does the Game Genie: Save Editor for PS3 work?
A. The Game Genie: Save Editor for PS3 allows you to transfer your save files from your PS3 to your PC in order to write codes onto the save file that unlock a variety of enhancements like max money or max experience.
Q. Will the Game Genie: Save Editor for PS3 interfere with online gameplay?
A. We are making every effort to ensure that the cheats do not affect online gameplay, but we cannot make a guarantee that the cheats will not have some effect on online gameplay. All of our cheats that we have compiled will not affect online gameplay to where there will be a competitive advantage against other users online. In the unlikely event that we do find cheats that affect online gameplay, we will make every attempt to block or prevent users from utilizing those cheats. We would like to strongly state that the users not attempt to use any of the cheats in online gameplay, and we cannot take any responsibility for users and their profiles getting banned from PSN as a result of attempting to cheat online. Bottom line: We do not endorse or encourage cheating online, and the intent of this product is not for online use, but primarily, for Single Player, Campaign, and/or story modes.
Q. Will the Game Genie: Save Editor for PS3 interfere with trophy acquisition?
A. Yes. Most of the enhancements will disable majority of the trophy acquisitions. Because the trophy system is based on achieving certain accomplishments under certain conditions, some of the enhancements of the Game Genie: Save Editor for PS3 will disrupt some of those conditions and make many trophies unobtainable. Some trophies will still be obtainable even with enhancements on, such as obtaining a certain item at a shop that was obtained using a max amount of money.
Q. But I want my trophies! How do I go back and make my enhanced save file able to earn trophies again?
A. The PC program installed on the Game Genie: Save Editor for PS3 keeps a back-up of every unedited save file before writing new enhancements on them if the option is turned on (it is turned on by default). The original save file will be in a back up folder on your PC; the original, unedited one will be the one saved at the earliest date.
Q. Does the Game Genie have a hexadecimal editor?
A. Yes, the Game Genie program has a hexadecimal editor, called Advanced Mode, that you can use to create your own codes. You will, however, only be able to create your own codes on games that we have on our game list.
Q. How do I access Advanced Mode?
A. With your game save on the Game Genie USB drive plugged in to your PC while the Game Genie program is running, use your mouse to right click the game you want to create your own codes, and select “Advanced Mode.”
Q. How do I reassign a profile?
A. The Game Genie will allow you to reassign your profiles onto any other saves. Here are the steps to reassign your profile:
- Insert the Game Genie Flash Drive with at least one save file that has your profile into your PC.
- Right-click on the save file with your profile and select “Extract Profile.” Your profile has now been saved on the Game Genie and has been named “Profile 1″ (or Profile 2, 3, 4, etc. if you already have other profiles extracted).
- Transfer the save file you wish to reassign profiles (i.e. your friend’s save file) onto your Game Genie Flash Drive and insert it into your PC.
- Right-click the save file you wish to reassign profiles and select “Reassign Profile.”
- A menu will pop up asking you which profile you wish to write onto the save. Select “Profile 1″ (or any other profile you may have saved) and click “Apply”
- The game save has now been reassigned with your profile and is ready to be transferred and played on the your PS3.
Q. Will the Game Genie be able to unlock on-disc DLC?
A. No. You will not be able to unlock on-disc DLC with the Game Genie: Save Editor.
Q. How much will it cost?
A. The MSRP of the Game Genie: Save Editor for PS3 is $29.99
Q. Is it okay to cheat at my games?
A. Who’s to say what’s right and what’s wrong in how you play video games? You’re free to do whatever you want to make gaming as fun as possible!

There is one I’d like to know. On games where you can’t copy save files (Like Star Ocean & Bayonetta), will you still be able to use the Game Genie on those? See those games (along with certain others) don’t allow you to back up save data unless it’s on the online-storage provided only for Playstation Plus members. What can be done regarding those games?

They just answered it this morning. There’s no way to use the Game Genie on those game until this fix they speak off is finished. I can wait though. As long as I can cheat (or rather, get Revenge) on the 2 Final Fantasy XIII’s as well as some other titles, I’m still satisfied.

What I want to disparately know is will this be BLOCKED by Sony in any future firmwares? I’d hate to spend $29.99 and then find out that Sony patched it and made it obsolete. In other words, can you guaranty this product to be firmware proof?

There is always a possibility, but the likely hood that it will happen is very slim. The fact that the Game Genie doesn’t affect online multi-player, disables most trophy acquisitions, increases replay value and allows for people to play games they otherwise would not have, we believe that Sony would actually embrace this product.

I you don’t mind my asking, what kind of fix is being worked on? I apologize in advance if that question can’t be answered, but this kind of stuff interests me, and I am very curious. I also personally wanted to cheat on Lollipop Chainsaw, just to find out that that save is locked as well, so I am sure many people would like to know. Also, someone asked about PSN games like Final Fantasy 7. I know you guys will focus on PS3 games, so does that mean you’ll be working on PS3 PSN games, or just disc based releases? You can always just a hex editor for the PSV files or just download saves from gamefaqs.com – I actually have the adapter for my ps3 that allows me to plug in my ps1/ps2 memory cards so I can transfer the save from my ps1/2 that used a gameshark code and put it on my ps3.

These guys choose there replies very carefully don’t expect them to answer many questions. Also there is no fix possible for locked game saves. The one who can only fix a locked game save is the developer of the game with an update. So if you would like a certain game save to be unlocked email the developer of the game and request it. With enough emails they will unlock it that is the only way possible.

This is not realtime hack or memory dump… You are editing a save file from a game which means you have to copy the save file from the xmb to a flash drive, copy it to the PC and open the save file with game genie. The game genie has its own hex editor so you could search the save file for whatever you are looking for

The question is: how? Most people won’t know what to look for. I mean, I’m familiar with hex, but unless someone tells me exactly what to change, a save file open in a hex editor looks like a bunch of numbers and letters most people won’t know what to do with. Sure, you and I could just go to codemasters-project (I’m ChrnoYamato1991 on there by the way), but that won’t apply to everyone. I know for a fact that if you search for a value, there could be thousands of instances of it that pop up in the save.

Yes that’s what I’m curious about if that’s what there doing they have found a way to decrypt the save files on the current firmware and than alter them and encrypt them again. Now what I want to know is are we going to be able to search through the decrypted file like them or not because I have a feeling yes they gave us a hex editor just how old game genie use to be just to change values but not to look at the file. I read something that there is another cheat dongle out there called the ps3usercheat v1.0 and it actually gives infinite health but you have to mod your ps3 I do not want to have to do that.I hope you guys would consider having infinite lives in your games.Just curious ….

Kenneth the reason that dongle can have cheats like that is because it jailbreaks the ps3 only works upto 3.55 firmware but it’s able to patch the ram memory where Game Genie does not have access to that part of the ps3. All the Game Genie can do is alter only what’s stored in the save like amount of ammo you had or lives or what weapons you had on you or how much ammo stuff like that but only what’s in the save. For example let’s just say 1 game doesn’t store how many lives you had left in the save than I don’t think you can alter it because it’s not stored on the save. Than on another game has the amount of lives you had left than you can alter that. Now that’s just a theory because we don’t actually know what it can do because nobody has access to one yet but I believe I’m right on the money.

For all those asking for “infinite codes,” this is a SAVE EDITOR. Cheat codes like infinite health that are supposed to have a permenant effect once enabled, cannot be saved. For example, if you have a cheat device, as long as you keep reloading the device, your infinite codes will continue working. But this product manipulates the save itself and therefore it stands to reason that the only things hyperkin can hack are changeable values. They can give you MAX health, but a cheat like infinite health, which only works with a device like the codebreaker or gameshark, can only work if there’s a lggeit “cheat device” that constantly tells the data in the game, even after getting hit, that you still have max health. There is no logical way that the PS3 game genie can do that. Hyperkin may surprise me, but there isn’t a logical way I can think of that a third party device like the save editor, which only manipulates the save, can give you infinite health, which is a manipulation of the game itself.

Hey, chill. No one’s mad bro, I’m just elicitly explaining because many people don’t seem to understand that a save editor is incapable of “infinite” codes. The best way I can put it is, use infinite health with a cheat device. If you saveed it and turned it off, would it save? No, because the cheat device isn’t on anymore. Max out your money though, save it, and will it save? Yes, it will still go down since the cheat device is not on, but it will still be maxed. You want to guess what can be done with a save editor, try to think of what can be saved on a save file and used without a cheat device. It’s ok though. It just seemed lot’s of people were expecting this to do things it could not. I’m just trying to help out, not anger involved.

I have games I would like hacked like Saint Seiya Senki and Mobile Suit Gundam Battlefield Record 0081. That’s a good question. See I have One Piece: Kaizoku Musou as well as some other games downloaded from the Japanese PSN. Info on imports would be nice.
But maybe their taking a break so they can work on current requests. I did ask previously for codes for Soul Calibur 4 & Sengoku Basara: Samurai Heroes. Those games’ save files are no longer locked.

To be a bit fair, they did say that their “target” release date was the first week of July. I actually called them and they said they weren’t sure when, but that they would ship them out as soon as they were ready. In other words, they were never really 100% certain it would be released by now anyway. I’m only disappointed because I’m a college student and I was hoping to use this thing on some of my games while I was 100% certain I’d have free time. I may only have two classes this time, but you never can predict with study time and homework. I just hope it gets released soon, as they seem confident enough that it will definitely be out before the end of the month. We just got to hope that that means sooner rather than later.

Please add UFC Undisputed 3 cheats, (Max Stats). All or most games that have came out this year (2012) or will be releasing this year should be on the cheat list when this device comes out. Maybe this company and game developers can come to some kind of agreement when developers are making the games they can q&a with you guys and see what kind of “cheats” you guys think people would want and prioritize from there. Also this might make it easier for hackers so they can implement certain codes with out as much as difficulty. I would just hope game developers embrace this device and offer full support.

No, you will not be able to use Advanced Mode on games that are not on the list, primarily because we want to ensure that people do not create cheats that give a competitive advantage in online multiplayer. By us having some degree of control, we make sure that the advanced mode in Game Genie won’t be abused. Some games take longer than others to break the encryption and then add codes for. The games that we put up are usually the ones that are easy to crack, but all the while, we are still trying to get codes for the games that are in demand.

Actually, I have a solution for that through trial and error (and a bunch of corrupted saves), I found a way to fix so you don’t have a max ATB, but instead you can set it to 4 or 5, whichever you prefer:
Open the game in Advanced mode, then click the character’s “Max ATB” selection and click on the corresponding code in the box below. The last 2 characters of the code should be 3C (if they aren’t, you have the wrong code) and change those two characters to either 2C (for 4 ATB segments) or 3B (for 5 ATB segments). Then pick your profile, apply, click OK where it prompts you, and enjoy. You’re welcome in advance

It says on your website that this won’t work with BLES versions, is it simply the case that there’s a code in the HEX that starts with BLUS. But wouldn’t that mean that I could change it to BLES using the advanced editing tool or a separate HEX editor.. The usercheat dongle has USA cheats in it and they run fine on Euro versions that I have. So is it the case that you haven’t tested euro games yet or they just won’t run, You see I’ve just bought one from eBay an I was a bit upset to read it only works on USA games.

Just like David said, some of your codes work on the pal region games just by renaming the bles and the specific number to the blus of the same game (it worked for me on the games i have (dead space 2, FFXIII, inFamous 2, borderlands, Prototype)).
I’m sure there are many pal region gamers who would help you testing out these codes (me includet).
The FFXIII codes work on all regions as those have the SAME savefolder name everywhere.
One request could you add some codes for dead rising 2 off the record, this would be owesome.

So i Just got my game genie for the PS3. This is mainly for the people with mac. So the requirement that you mainly need is windows software. For example windows 7, vista, and XP anything older the XP your fresh out of luck.But all you mac lovers have to do is put boot camp on your mac. Boot camp will add windows to your mac and turn it in to a PC.
